Invitation to OECD/NEA survey on medical radioisotopes

Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development/Nuclear Energy Agency is conducting this global survey on current and future use of radioisotope in medicine. OECD/NEA held International Workshop on Medical Radioisotope Supply in 2023 and 2024. The next workshop will be held in 2026 based on this survey.

Dear colleagues,

I hope this message finds you well.

On behalf of the NEA Medical Radioisotopes team, we would like to thank you for your continued engagement and support of NEA activities.

Following the organization of two International Workshops on the Supply of Medical Radioisotopes in 2023 and 2024, we are pleased to inform you that the NEA is now conducting an international study on Radioligand Therapy (RLT). The study focuses on the current state of RLT, patient eligibility across cancer indications, and future isotope production projections.

Our work aims to:
• Estimate the future number of eligible patients over the next 10–15 years
• Assess healthcare system readiness, including infrastructure, workforce, regulatory, and funding challenges
• Strengthen the supply of key therapeutic radioisotopes such as Lutetium-177, Actinium-225, and others
• Develop evidence-based policy recommendations for OECD member countries to ensure timely and equitable access to RLT and theranostics

The study is being carried out through online surveys designed to capture insights from professionals across disciplines involved in or supporting the implementation of RLT — including nuclear medicine specialists, medical oncologists, radiopharmacists, regulators, health economists, and policy experts.

We kindly invite you to take part in these surveys and share your perspective. We understand that the topic may not directly relate to every professional area represented here; in that case, we would greatly appreciate your help in disseminating the survey within your professional networks or institutions to reach colleagues who can provide informed input.

Thank you very much for your time and collaboration in advancing international understanding and coordination in this important field.

With kind regards,

The NEA Medical Radioisotopes Team
